The Latitude 55

Dags för en blend. Latitude 55 är framtagen för den svenska marknaden och är blandad av Folke Anderson som ligger bakom Black Ribbon och Grönstedt Cognac med mera. Denna Whisky kommer på pantflaska i PET och finns som hel och halv butelj. Priset ligger på 229 för helbutelj och 129 för halvbutelj och har Nr 20415.

 Nu till noterna:

Doft: Den har en doft av hav och lite torvrök samt inslag av ljunghonung. Det framträder även en lätt doft av brända mandlar.
Med vatten: Ljungdoften fullkomligt exploderar och man får en känsla av att man är ute på bergsknallarna i Bohusläns inland och fullkomligt borrar ner näsan i de halvmultnade ljungresterna under ljungen. Samtidigt förstärks doften av hav (kan det vara en Coastal Higland malt i denna?).

Smak: En honungssötma som blandas upp av ett inslag av mandarin i en helhet. Även lite viol och den där sältan från hav som man känner i doften.
Med vatten: Len och mjukare honung, lite sirap/gräddkola, ingen viol utan mer ren maltsötma.

Eftersmak: Sötma och en framrullande lätt behaglig kryddighet, känner även av smak från knäck blandat med mörk kolakonfekt. En lätt torvrökighet ligger i botten och följer med till slutet.
Med vatten: Kryddigheten tonas ner betydligt. Betydligt mer hav och mycket starkare rökighet som rullar fram i munnen efter ca 5-10 sekunder. En liten örtsmak som blandar sig med den rökiga havssmaken. Här känner man att den har lagrats i sherryfat i något skede.

Kommentarer: En mycket bra Blend som inte smakar så mycket blend utan mer som en "blended malt". Mycket karaktär som kan jämföras med Jura (Whiskyn från ön Jura). Rökigheten smakar som en Islayrökighet och påminner om en blandning mellan Bowmore och Kilchoman men givetvis betydligt mildare. Riktigt bra och prisvärd.

This Whisky comes on pledged bottled in PET and available as full and half bottles. The price is 229 for the full bottle and 129 for the half bottle and have No. 20415 at Systembolaget.

Now the notes:

Nose: It has a scent of sea and a little peat smoke and hints of heather honey. There appears also a slight smell of roasted almonds.

With water: Heather scent explodes and you get the feeling that you are on the rocks in Bohuslän (on the westcoast of Sweden) inland and absolutely drills your nose in the semi-decomposing heather remains in the heather. At the same time strengthens the scent of the ocean (it may be a Coastal Higland malt in this?).

Palate: A honey sweetness, overlaid by a touch of mandarin in a whole. Even a little violet and that saltiness from the sea that you feel the smell.

With water: Smooth and soft honey, a little syrup / toffee, no violet but more pure malt sweetness.

Finish: Sweetness and a forward rolling easy pleasant spiciness, also senses the taste of toffee mixed with dark caramel candy. A light peat smoke is in the bottom that follows to the end.

With water: Spicy unit is toned down considerably. Considerably more sea and very strong smokiness that rolls up into the mouth after about 5-10 seconds. A small herbal taste which mixes with the smoky sea spouse. Here one feels that it has matured in sherry casksat some point.

Comments: A very good Blend that does not taste so much blend but more as a "blended malt". Much character that can be compared to Jura (whiskey from the island of Jura). Smoky unit tastes like a Islay smokiness and resembles a cross between Bowmore and Kilchoman but obviously much milder. Really good and affordable.
